Exposes the widespread national concern about the economy and job situation during the 2000-2003 recession. Findings reveal a large sample of workers who had been laid off with no advance notice, no severance pay, and no career counseling from their employers, leading to lowered confidence in the American economy and political leadership as well as a desire for a stronger role for government and employers in assisting and supporting workers while they remain unemployed.
