Evaluation of Various Youth Programs Funded by the Lucent Technologies Foundation

From 1998 to 2001, the Center served as a primary evaluator for the Lucent Technologies Foundation, performing regular evaluations of the Foundation’s three primary youth and education grant programs. These programs included an ongoing summer program for high school students in Newark, New Jersey; a grant program that provided funding to a wide variety of youth education and development programs in New Jersey;and a national grant program that funded multicultural awareness programs for high school students. Working closely with the Foundation’s staff, the Center developed a common evaluation framework and strategy to provide the Foundation with information that it needed to make informed decisions about its grant programs and individual grantees. The strategy included pre- and post-participation surveys for youth, interviews with program staff and stakeholders, and in-depth site visits to selected programs. The in-depth site visits included focus groups with students and interviews with program staff. (Funded by a grant from the Lucent Technologies Foundation)
