Evaluation of the DiversityWorks/Add Us In Grant Program

The Heldrich Center is under contract with The Workplace, Inc. of southwestern Connecticut to conduct an evaluation of its U.S. Department of Labor, Office of Disability Employment Policy’s Add Us In grant, which seeks to improve the employment outcomes of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) persons with disabilities. Through the grant, The Workplace, Inc. is building partnerships with employers, LGBT-serving organizations, disability-serving organizations, and the workforce system to help LGBT people with disabilities become employed. Through the evaluation, the Heldrich Center will generate actionable information on the implementation of the individual project services and to enable the evaluators to assess the overall effectiveness of Add Us In’s effort to improve vocational services for LGBT persons with disabilities. Specifically, three research questions will guide the evaluation: 1) which of the project services have worked well and which have not been as effective in improving services for LGBT individuals? 2) in what ways can the services be modified during the course of their implementation to maximize their effectiveness? 3) do the Add Us In project services have the intended positive effect on client outcomes (e.g., employment and earnings)? To answer these research questions, the Heldrich Center will collect data through online surveys, individual interviews, focus groups, and the analysis of participant data collected by The Workplace, Inc. (Funded by a grant from The Workplace Inc., and the U.S. Department of Labor's Office of Disability Employment Policy)
