Development of a Parents' Handbook on the Future World of Work

January 1, 2008

Development and design of a handbook for New Jersey parents who have children with disabilities.

In 2008, the Heldrich Center worked with the New Jersey Council on Developmental Disabilities to develop and design a handbook for parents who have children with disabilities. The handbook serves as a source of encouragement and inspiration for parents about opportunities that exist for children with developmental disabilities, educates parents about the benefits of working, and provides insight into today’s workplace and the technological requirements of occupations that allow people with disabilities to perform in jobs they may previously have not been able to perform. The handbook also outlines specific steps that parents can take to encourage work and independence for their children through learning and positive parental expectations.
