A Profile of the Workforce Development Partnership Program, 2000

2001-09-28

This report profiles New Jersey's Workforce Development Partnership Program. Two main components of the program are the Individual Training Grant program, which awards training grant vouchers to dislocated workers, and the Customized Training program, which awards grants to firms and consortia to train current employees The first chapter of the report provides a description of the Individual Training Grant participants between 1997-2000 and the type of training they received. The second chapter provides a description of the firms participating in the Customized Training Program. The third chapter provides a picture of how Individual Training Grant participants who completed training in 1994-2000 have been faring in the labor market ever since.

On September 30, 2004, the Heldrich Center hosted a symposium in New York to reflect upon the efforts of the September 11th Fund’s Employment Assistance Program to help more than 11,000 dislocated workers from the New York region find new jobs and launch new careers. Employment Assistance Program Focus Group Report

2003-08-01

The September 11th Fund, working with the John J. Heldrich Center for Workforce Development at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, created the Employment Assistance Program to help dislocated workers regain employment and wages lost in the aftermath of the September 11th, 2001 terrorist attacks. The project consisted of eight focus groups conducted at a professional focus group facility in Manhattan between June 25 through July 9, 2003. This publication reports on the findings of those focus groups.

This report explores the perceived effect of Customized Training (CT) grants on recipient companies and their employees. Individuals need easily accessible, easy-to-understand information to successfully navigate the ever-changing U.S. labor market. Internet tools are one way to effectively and efficiently convey such information to users. This paper explores the role state governments can play in creating such resources. It specifically examines how the State of New Jersey, with the assistance of the Heldrich Center, created two Web-based resources that provide students, job seekers, and workers with the information they need to make informed decisions about careers and further education. The paper also explores the value of such resources and illustrates some of the key lessons for creating a successful information resource.
